Groovin’ the Moo (GTM) regrets to announce Chiddy Bang will no longer be part of the GTM 2012 National tour. Unfortunately they have chosen to cancel their Australian commitments in order to focus on new TV and radio promotional opportunities for their upcoming album in the USA.

This decision is very disappointing and totally out of our control. However GTM is very pleased to announce that J Award Unearthed Artist of the Year winners Ball Park Music will be joining the GTM tour.

Dynamos Ball Park Music are masters of the indie-pop-sunny melody and this GTM, we school of fish will be reeled in by their catchiest of hooks. The band, no doubt big fans of Pavement and Weezer, recently had two entries in triple j’s Hottest 100 with the playful ‘It’s Nice to Be Alive’ and ‘All I Want is You’ appearing at #31 and #38 respectively. Their record “Happiness and Surrounding Suburbs” also received nominations for Album of the Year in both triple j’s J Awards and Rolling Stone Awards, and was impressively voted the 10th Best Album of 2011 in triple j’s listener poll.

GTM promoter Stephen Halpin commented on the circumstances today, “To replace an act on the festival at this late stage is very difficult, so we are extremely grateful to have an act of the caliber of Ball Park Music join the tour at such short notice. Yes its annoying that Chiddy Bang have chosen to cancel but Ball Park Music are a fantastic live act and deserve all their current success.”

Ball Park Music will be joining 360, Adrian Lux (SWE), Andrew W.K One-Man-Party Tour (USA), Beni, Big Scary, Bluejuice, City and Colour (CAN), Digitalism (GER), The Getaway Plan, Gold Fields, Hermitude, Hilltop Hoods, Kaiser Chiefs (UK), Kimbra, The Maccabees (UK), Matt Corby, Muscles, Mutemath (USA), Naysayer & Gilsun, Parkway Drive, Public Enemy (USA), Purple Sneakers DJs, San Cisco and Wavves (USA) as part of the GTM tribe committed to touring regional Australia.

GTM appreciates that there may be people who have purchased tickets especially to see Chiddy Bang. Refunds will be available from 9am ADST Monday 27 February until 5pm ADST on Friday 2 March through MOSHTIX (1300 438 849) or ticketsupport@moshtix.com.au.

BENDIGO | TOWNSVILLE | MAITLAND | CANBERRA | BUNBURY |

Presented nationally by Cattleyard Promotions and Co-Presented in Bunbury by Sunset Events. Supported nationally by triple j, Channel [V], Faster Louder, inthemix, Streetpress Australia & triple j Magazine

Rich feathers…precious stones. The Groovin’ the Moo (GTM) cosmogram returns in 2012. With the milestone of a record ten international Artists alongside local essentials coming together for Australia’s only touring regional event, the scene has been set for a ritual of musical and communal expression. From City and Colour, Kaiser Chiefs to Public Enemy and more, this will be one fun techni-colour spectrum of artist-all-sorts handpicked for GTM fans to enjoy this May.

Now in its eighth percussive year, the GTM tribe of 75,000 strong across the land will hold up the sky for another gathering culminating in a happiness explosion of epic proportions. Sporting head dress and holding talisman, White Eagle Desert Dweller aka Stephen Halpin (GTM Promoter, Cattleyard Promotions) relayed in anticipation, “I’m really excited about this lineup. So many fresh locals, festival favourites and breaking internationals to keep the outdoor stages rocking and the Moolin Rouge banging. Looking forward to checking out Chiddy Bang, plus Mutemath and The Maccabees who are making their first tours of Australia. I’m sure everyone will give them a friendly GTM welcome.”

With a history of sell-out events, in 2012 the five shows will again be ready to cater for all ages, as well as being licensed (recommend 16+). GTM is excited. In exchange for a single joyous day with its much missed sidekicks, a sacrifice of rich musical and culinary offerings will be put forth to satiate the clan’s eyes, ears and bellies. Twenty five artists will be presented ceremoniously on a double outdoor stage and by the voodoo glow of the Moolin Rouge Big Top tent before those who have astral plane travelled, caught magic carpet train or bus from interstate, country town, regional centre and city. For those who are ready, with a ticket price at under $100 (or two pineapples, rather), cometh with your tribe. It’s time to partake in a day where we give, receive, beam and shake.

In alphabetical order, behold these Artists of Groovin’ the Moo 2012 who will lavish us with storytelling and song:

360, Adrian Lux (SWE), Andrew W.K One-Man-Party Tour (USA), Beni, Big Scary, Bluejuice, Chiddy Bang (UK), City and Colour (CAN), Digitalism (GER), The Getaway Plan, Gold Fields, Hermitude, Hilltop Hoods, Kaiser Chiefs (UK), Kimbra, The Maccabees (UK), Matt Corby, Muscles, Mutemath (USA), Naysayer & Gilsun, Parkway Drive, Public Enemy (USA), Purple Sneakers DJs, San Cisco, Wavves (USA) with more local and triple j unearthed artists to be announced!

Returning for the first time since 2005, Grammy Award winning prog-rock group, YES, will be making their highly anticipated return to Australian shores in April 2012 for a festival performance at the infamous Byron Bay Bluesfest and a string of very special theatre shows including a show at Perth’s Riverside Theatre on Thursday 5th April.

Forming in London in the late 1960s, YES are regarded as one of the pioneers of the progressive genre. They are known for their classically-influenced arrangements with extended song lengths, unusual time signatures, three-part high vocal harmonies, virtuoso musicianship, eclectic blend of musical styles, dramatic dynamic and metrical changes, abstract lyrics, elaborate album art and enigmatic live stage performances.

Having sold close to 50 million albums worldwide, their status as one of the most successful bands in America throughout the 1970s was solidified when four of their albums were certified Platinum and another three albums reached Gold status. And their number one hit single, Owner Of A Lonely Heart, held the top spot on the main charts in 1983 as well as becoming a hit on the R&B and disco charts.

The current line-up is comprised of bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Geoff Downes, and singer Benoît David.

This year YES released a new album titled Fly From Here – produced by legendary musician and producer Trevor Horn.

And more than 40 years since their inception, audiences will be able to see YES perform tracks from their indelible catalogue of hugely successful hit albums, such as Fragile,Close To The Edge, Drama and 90125.

On 23rd February 2010, the SLAM rally saw 20,000 people march through Melbourne to the tune of AC/DC’s definitive ‘Long Way to the Top’, in protest against the Victorian Government’s misguided policy link between live music and violence. Out on the streets of our city, we showed our support and love for a truly great live music community.

The SLAM rally was the largest cultural protest in Australia’s history.

Now all of Australia has the opportunity to participate in a national event that celebrates our local musicians in our small venues.

“Small venues were my university.”
- Paul Kelly, SLAM Rally speech

Music communities around Australia are now invited to unite in support of our thriving live culture by hosting their own National SLAM Day gigs – February 23rd 2012 will be a national day to celebrate live music in Australia!

Support your local artists and venues by getting out and experiencing the spontaneous excitement and intimacy you can only get at a small venue.

Support a National SLAM Day event in your town – any style, any genre. It’s easy to get involved:

Venues can register their gigs on the SLAM website at slamrally.org. It’s free to sign up.

Musicians can join with their local venues to curate a National SLAM Day gig.

Gig-goers can celebrate live music and local musicians in their own neighbourhood.

Community groups can host their own National SLAM Day gig.

“Like” SLAM on Facebook and keep up with news on live music: www.facebook.com/SLAMrally

“What we EXPECT to achieve is that on SLAM Day the music loving community will have one day a year where they give time to contemplate what live music means to them. What we HOPE to achieve is that with a united community, industry and media focus on live music and we create a greater momentum towards enhancing Australia’s live music legacy. What we DREAM of achieving as long term goals is a greater standard of venue with artist and community engagement raised to new levels, better standards of support and conditions for live music artists, and most importantly a raising of public perception of the true value 1- that live music brings to our society and 2- the worth of live music in economic terms so that a more realistic remuneration can be achieved, for the most important people in the scheme of things, the practitioners/ artists.” Quincy McLean – SLAM

About SLAM

Save Live Australia’s Music (SLAM) is a collective of non-politically aligned, independent, local music-loving citizens. The only pre-requisite to getting involved is a love of live music.

In early 2010, the SLAM Rally swept through the streets of Melbourne in protest against over-arching Victorian Liquor Licensing policies that unfairly linked live music to high risk activity.

SLAM representatives, the lobby group Fair Go 4 Live Music (FG4LM) and the then newly established Music Victoria, all co-signed the Live Music Accord on the eve of the rally and then spent a further seven months negotiating the Live Music Agreement, where it was officially announced that live music does not cause violence.

Since then, SLAM has successfully negotiated important changes within a number a number of other key music reforms in Melbourne. SLAM has contributed to the Busking Policy and the Live Music Strategy for the City of Melbourne, the City of Yarra’s Live Music Working Group, and the Music Council of Victoria.

Supporters and spokespeople for SLAM have included Paul Kelly, Dan Sultan, Megan Washington, Nick Cave, The Dirty Three, Tina Arena, Clare Bowditch, Paul Dempsey, Kram, Tim Rogers, Nic Cester, Cut Copy, The Living End, Missy Higgins, Ross Wilson, Evelyn Morris (Pikelet), Brian Nankervis, The Rockwiz Orkestra, Slash, Myf Warhurst, Augie March and Mick Harvey, among many others.

“Live music coverage relates not only to artists, gigs or festivals, but also covers the galvanisation of the local community to ‘protect’ the live music industry .The formation of interest groups such as SLAM provides further evidence of the value attributed to live music by community members. The interest groups are a manifestation of community pride in the reputation and legacy of the live music industry, which they value as something ‘worthy of protection’.”

Rock ‘n’ roll icon John Fogerty set to headline the West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival!

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that legendary rocker, John Fogerty will be heading to the sunny shores of Fremantle to headline the 9th annual West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival. Fogerty will take to the stage for an amazing two hour set which will no doubt delight fans as he performs the legendary Creedence Clearwater Revival album Cosmo’s Factory in full, along with other CCR and solo hits.

This will be a magical moment in musical history that you won’t want to miss out on!

John Fogerty is a true American treasure, one of popular music’s all-time greatest singers, guitar players, and songwriters. His remarkable career began in his hometown of El Cerrito, California, soon earning massive popular and critical success with the one and only Creedence Clearwater Revival. As leader of CCR, Fogerty forged a distinctive, groundbreaking sound all of his own, equal parts blues, country, pop, rockabilly, R&B, swamp boogie and Southern fried rock ‘n’ roll, all united by his uniquely evocative lyrical perspective.

From 1968 to 1971, Creedence Clearwater Revival unleashed an incredible succession of hit singles and platinum certified albums that remains unparalleled in the annals of rock ‘n’ roll history. In 1971, they knocked The Beatles off the number 1 spot for the Most Popular Band in the World in the Readers’ Poll of the UK music bible, NME.

Their much loved 5th studio album Cosmo’s Factory features some of their biggest tracks, including “Lookin’ Out My Back Door”, “Up Around The Bend”, “Born On The Bayou” and “Who’ll Stop The Rain”.

Fogerty and his band have spent much of the past year rockin’ all over the world, drawing rapturous critical acclaim at every stop. “Energetic, wired, and vital…Fogerty was simply a physical wonder to behold,” exclaimed the Toronto Sun in a four-starred rave while Rolling Stone pointed out that “Fogerty couldn’t hold back his enthusiasm.” We can’t wait to pen our own reviews of his magical two-hour performance.

WA’s most uniquely programmed multi-genre festival, tailored to the true music lover is returning to its home in Fremantle Park and the smorgasbord is set to fill the stomachs of those who are hungry for some food for the soul. And with that in mind, we’re very excited to also be bringing Blitzen Trapper for the first time ever to the West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots stage. Forming in 2000, genre-straddling has always been a bit of a specialty of Blitzen Trapper, who have masterfully blended indie, folk-rock with alt-country. But at their heart, they have a classic rock ‘n’ roll sound that is drenched in warming harmonies.

These Portland veterans really know how to write a song. Alongside their acoustic finger picking, bluesy harmonica and gently clinking tambourine, sit electronic throbbing bass and emphatic stomping that meld beautifully as the backdrop to their clever and engaging lyrics.

Come and check out these flawless musicians, and join us for the all-out sing-along that is sure to ensue at West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots and we will beg and plead for an encore together.

We’re also pleased to be bringing local legends Zydecats to the stage. This five piece can cover off any genre thrown at them, from swing, jump blues and rockabilly to soul, R&B and country. Deeply engrained in the WA music scene, Zydecats delight every audience they perform for. Zydecats’ own Lucky Oceans will also impart his incredible musical knowledge as he takes to the stage as our official MC for the day.

These three amazing artists will be joining the already incredible array of talent including Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Pogues, The Specials, My Morning Jacket, Buddy Guy, Keb Mo, Steve Earle, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Husky, Felicity Groom and more to be announced.

Location

After sold out festivals in 2010 and 2011, we’ll be returning again to our home at Fremantle Park for the third year in 2012. Our second year at Fremantle Park in April saw us getting very comfortable with a revised layout ticking all the boxes for festival goers to settle in for the day.

Ticketing Information

Tickets are on sale now from www.moshtix.com.au, 1300 GET TIX (438 849) or at moshtix outlets.

Not only have we added some incredible artists to the line up, we’ve also kept our General Admission ticket price the same as our first release, available for $139 + BF.

The new double-decker VIP experience in 2011 was very well received and utilised, so if you fancy enjoying West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots 2012 in style, then the VIP ticket at $350 + BF is the one for you.

Again, it will be a family affair, with Under 18s able to enjoy the festival via the Family Registration process. You can find more info on that here. Under 18 tickets are available for $80 + BF.

We are again including the chance to offset carbon emissions by including the optional $3 (inc GST) Green Fee. This contribution helps reduce the festival’s carbon footprint from travel (especially those of you who are travelling from regional areas to the event) and also contributes to the eco initiatives on site.

Head to www.westcoastbluesnroots.com.au for more details.

THE WHO’S ROGER DALTREY RETURNS IN APRIL 2012

PERFORMING THE LEGENDARY ROCK OPERA TOMMY

MEDIA RELEASE : Friday 27th January, 9am

“…and his chops haven’t sounded this powerful in years.” The Guardian, UK

“If Tommy was made of bricks and mortar it would be Grade I listed by now.” The Independent, UK

Chugg Entertainment and Bluesfest Touring are pleased to announce that ROGER DALTREY, the iconic lead singer of The Who, will perform The Who’s legendary rock opera TOMMY from start to finish. (The Who never actually played the complete Tommy). Daltrey premiered the show at The Royal Albert Hall in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust on March 25th and has since toured it throughout the UK in the summer and has just wound up a tour of the US and Canada.

The tour will include a show at Perth’s Riverside Theatre on Thursday 19th April.

Employing striking visuals to accompany the music, every show will be an unforgettable concert experience for lifelong fans and newcomers alike, who will be treated not only to the full majesty of TOMMY, but also to a variety of Who Classics and more.

TOMMY is not only one of the most acclaimed and defining works of the rock era, it is an enduring album that resonates on radio to this day where it has found multi-generational appeal. Inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998, the 20 million-selling double album also spawned a successful 1975 film of the same name–with DALTREY playing the title role–which re-underlined its place in the cultural firmament.

Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee DALTREY is pulling out all the stops with a full backing band that will bring the rock opera’s wide-ranging sounds and textures to life vibrantly on stage every evening. Joining DALTREY will be Frank Simes (guitar), Scott Deavours (drums), Jon Button (Bass), Loren Gold (Keyboards) and also on guitar will be SIMON TOWNSHEND, younger brother of The Who’s guitarist PETE TOWNSHEND.

Commenting on the tour, Pete Townshend says ”Great to see Roger performing TOMMY with his band in 2012. I will be there in spirit and Roger has my complete and most loving support. Roger is touring his unique concert version of TOMMY using his faithful presentation of the original work as the backbone for a set of wider material. It is wonderful to hear the way Roger and his new band re-interpret the old Who songs.”

Throughout this tour, songs such as “Pinball Wizard,” “The Acid Queen,” “I’m Free,” “See Me, Feel Me” and “We’re Not Gonna Take It” promise to transport attendees into the world of this classic album with shuddering intensity and poetic power.

A 1989 tour by The Who saw them reprise TOMMY live. The upcoming DALTREY tour will differ in that all of the album’s songs will be played (with the exception of Underture). When DALTREY and his band performed TOMMY in March 2011 at a sell out concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall, The Independent called the show “a faithful reading…The stand-outs, ‘I’m Free,’ and ‘See Me, Feel Me’ and the anthemic climax of ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ are rousing.” Of his US tour dates the Boston Globe said “… it was…heartening to hear Daltrey… sing his history with grizzled power and heart-on-sleeve sincerity.”

Roger describes the show and visuals as ”A Tommy Show for today’s audience from a different perspective.”

“TOMMY, an album that tells a story about a ‘deaf, dumb, and blind boy’ who becomes the leader of a messianic movement, will always be seen as a turning point for the band,” adds DALTREY. “Within it, I found the new voice of The Who and the band found its stride in making that music, adjusting it, using all that knowledge that we had from jazz and the blues into making it work in a rock way.”

Don’t miss this spectacular special event.

SBTRKT is an artist we can’t wait to see in the flesh at Laneway 2012. We first heard ‘Wildfire’ a while back = instant love. Being HUGE Little Dragon fans ourselves (who feature in the track), we were incredibly excited for this song and to listen to MOAR. Yes, moar.

As a general rule at HQ, we’re hesitant on people who do not use vowels. They’re important. But in SBTRKT’s case, we forgive them. What we love about Young Turks is that every song brings something different table, a mellower, softer, quieter side of electronica if you will, showcasing incredible producing and mixing talent. There’s also a bit of everything for someone. Let’s test this theory shall we?

Feeling like a bit of a chill out? Check out ‘Hold On’.

How about if you’re feeling groovy? Check out ‘Pharoahs’.

There’s more to this theory of course and we welcome your suggestions…

We’ve got an inkling SBTRKT closing Laneway will be one of those that leave you feeling a excited, itchy and giggly all rolled into one. If it wasn’t already clear, this is going to be AMAZING! We’re already getting funny feelings in our bellies that are not caused by too much beer (like there is such a thing).

Love,

1. Dan Deacon getting the crowd in a circle and simultaneous dancing!

2. Light saber dude walking around interpretative dancing and making new friends.

3. Those amazing dinosaur costumes! Does anyone have a photo of this?

4. The full moon behind The Kooks. How about that, mother nature?!

5. Girls showing their excitement at Arctic Monkeys by taking their kit off. We don’t blame you… it is Alex Turner…

So tell us your best stories! Best moment? Best act? Best boogie? Best ‘bust a move’ song?

Love,

Team Sunset x
